2nd Annual “Coats for Kids” Coat Drive

Physical Therapy Coat Drive For Kids

Rochester's 2nd Annual Physical Therapy Coatdrive For Kids

In honor of National Physical Therapy Month, this October we will be holding our Second Annual Coat Drive for Kids.

Last year you helped us collect and donate 65 coats in addition to numerous hats and gloves to the Salvation Army Genesis House Youth Shelter and the East Rochester Community Resource Center.

This year we are hoping you will help us reach our goal of 70 Coats!

As the Fall weather approaches and temperatures begin to drop in the Rochester area we are reminded that there are many children in our own local area that are in desperate need of warm winter coats, hats and gloves.

You can bring your gently used and new winter clothing into Peak Performance throughout the month of October. We will have donation bins set up in our entranceway during our normal business hours.

Take a look through your home for coats, hats and gloves of all sizes that you could donate to a local child in need this winter in Rochester.

The Salvation Army Genesis House Youth Shelter is in need of winter coats for teenagers through young adults with larger sizes being the most needed this year.

The East Rochester Community Resource Center can use winter clothing for children of all ages and sizes from toddlers to teens!

Please stop in and say a quick hello to your favorite Physical Therapist or Office Team Member when you come by to make your donations, we always love to hear from our current and former patients!

We look forward to your help and the local children do too!

First Annual Physical Therapy Coat Drive For Kids

Thanks For The Donations!

Our patients and local area business partners really helped us out with our First Annual Physical Therapy Coat Drive For Kids this past month. With their help we were able to give 65 coats to local area children to help them stay warm this winter season!

We will be holding the coat drive every October, in honor of National Physical Therapy Month.

We will continue to accept your donations of new and gently used coats as well as new hats, gloves and mittens throughout the entire winter season. All donations will be given to the East Rochester Community Resource Center and The Salvation Army Genesis House Youth Shelter.

Thank you again for your help and support to give back to our local children in need of warm winter gear.

About The Salvation Army’s Genesis House Youth Shelter:

Salvation Army established Genesis House in 1981 as an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth in Rochester and Monroe County. It is the only youth emergency shelter that is certified by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services in Monroe County.

The mission of Genesis House is to decrease homelessness among youth, provide for their physical and mental health while in the shelter, increase their daily living skills, strengthen family relationships, re-unite youth with their families whenever possible and discharge youth to stable living conditions.

Genesis House is a 14 bed home-like facility open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The program provides 24 hour supervision, shelter, food, counseling and life skills instruction. Case management services, referrals to community agencies, and advocacy continue for up to 12 months to runaway and homeless youth and their families.

In 2009, 233 unduplicated youth from Monroe County between the ages of 16 and 20 received services from Genesis House.

Genesis House is in part funded by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services and the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau.

About The East Rochester Community Resource Center:

The Community Resource Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Please leave a message when calling during off hours and we will return the call as soon as possible.  In the event of an emergency during off hours, please call the East Rochester Police Department who will then contact the Director.

SERVICES  OFFERED FOR THE NEEDY
FOOD SHELF:  The food shelf is one of the most important services offered for those in need, such as families with small children who might go hungry if not for this service.  The generosity of the 6 member churches in the East Rochester Association of Churches, Koinonia Fellowship, the Village of East Rochester, East Rochester School District and other organizations provide a large portion of the non-perishable food items to the Center.  The Community Resource Center is a member of FOODLINK of Rochester and we receive grants from Foodlink to help purchase other food items when needed.  Requests for help are scrutinized for legitimacy.  Information is compiled on interview sheets and then verified.  Ordinarily food shelf assistance is granted for 7 days, 3 meals per day per person.

USED CLOTHING CENTER:  Our used clothing center has been a tremendous help for many young families, especially larger families, those on public assistance, or anyone struggling to make ends meet with no disposable income left over for extras such as warm coats, sweaters, gloves or hats.

USED FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS:    Donated furniture and household items are provided to needy families finding it difficult to set up housekeeping, or when finding it hard to replace old broken down appliances.

CRISIS FUND:  The fund is used with discretion to help people in emergency situations.  It is a one-time grant and a policy is in place to verify need and qualifications prior to granting financial aid.    For example, to receive rent help applicants must have been a resident of the village for at least one year, their residence must be up to current building codes, and they must be able to pay the following month’s rent.

TRANSPORTATION POOL:    We have a volunteer pool of safe drivers who will help people run errands, take them grocery shopping or to a doctor appointment.  One week advance notice is required to utilize this service.

Other services provided by the Center include budget counseling and advocacy.

The Center also provides help for children in needy families who cannot afford to pay registration fees to play in youth sports programs so the children are not left out of a worthwhile and fun activity.   Information from the State, County and Village are provided in the areas of assistance in many forms and for referrals to other agencies for those who need long-term help.  Call the Center today for more information on any of these services.

The Center is operated by a paid director, a paid associate director, and many volunteers.  All calls for help are directed to the Resource Center by the local church community, school, Village, and other organizations and individuals.  For more information, check out our free classified ad in the weekly Community Adnet News, or call the Center today @ 586-0525.
